l am re-doing my flooring, taking out carpet and wanna install hardwood floors.l do not know if l should go with the darker woods like walnut or the lighter woods like maple. The space is relatively small but with lofted ceilings.Approximately 500 sq ft.

The lighter colour will give in an feeling of openess but I think the darker colour with the stark walling will have a touch of elegance if you keep the matching decor simple.

lighter wood would be better and depending on type of wood..especially if it is 3/4 flooring not laminate.i'd run the length of the wood towards the shortest wall. it give it the effect of a bigger room and gives it a very spacious feeling.

Lighter to make it look bigger, but darker could look better depending on what kind of look you are going for.

Exotic, Cozy, Worldy, Sophisticated: Darker
Kid-Friendly, Light, Modern, fresh: Lighter

Hope that helps :-D!

I think u could choose either, depending on how many windows r in the room (which create an illusion of more space) & how u decorate (colors, furniture, etc.).
I've always been a fan of hard wood floors in any color & it seems that you're in the same boat. Just grab some samples from the store & figure out which color would look best with what u have.
It is all about placement.you seem to have a nice size space to work with, so arrange ur furniture in such a way that it almost creates two different rooms (if u can) & that will also make the space seem bigger.

Light always looks brighter and more open. I chose a light maple laminate, and I loved it.
