What type of paint or other material would be best suited to acheive a non-slip surface on wood flooring

Add sand to paint in the color of your choice or buy some strips that look a lot like emery cloth and fasten them to the floor.
A friend rolled paint on the floor of his deck and then sprinkled sand on top. That way the grit was exposed but it was stuck in the wet paint.

i build rock climbing walls and we just add sand to the paint and it makes it really rough. does not take to much half a cup for 1 gallon of paint or so. you could also add after you paint some black sticky step covers. they are like 5-8 bucks and about 1.5 ft x 2.5 ft. Or you can go to a boat marine store like west marine and they sell 2'' sticky tape that is rough for wet surfaces and lay it out in a cool pattern or design its only like 8 bucks for a roll.

It is also possible to buy non slip material with adhesive backing that u just put down on clean floor! You may have to look around a little bit for it,- but we used to use on wings of ariplanes on the ''walk'' area so that nobody slipped on the slick paint, (or fell & damaged the aircraft ''skin'')! It is available in ''paint on state'' too , - but u have to keep the paint well ''shook up'' to keep the ''grit'' in suspension while u appply it! It does not smell real good, but u will get over that in a little while, (and as the paint drys better- smell decreases)! I would think most reputable paint stores can get it for u - if they do not stock it! In either paint or ''stickyback' form! (It looks like black sandpaper!''

You can also mix sand with paint.

Walnut shell believe it or not, ground up is the most effective non-slip surface.
You can varnish or paint it with anything you like. The finer you grind it the neater it will look if thats a big deal.

just mix it with enough paint to cover the floor, but nice and thick, just enough paint to hold it together, you should still be able to see a lot of the shell on the first coat. Then paint over it a couple of times.

Hope that helps
